Of Incense

Age Group: Adult
A spark of light
Glowing in the night
Releasing fragrant scent
To honor deity, or with whatever I meant
As it turns to ash,
My thoughts I rehash
And the sacred smoke wafts through the air
Leaving lingering scent there
And it continues its subtle life,
Pleasing and cleansing me of any strife.
A myriad of scents with which to celebrate
From simple private enjoyment to being with one's mate
From unwinding before retiring to one's bed,
To quietly honoring the dead
A wonderful, yet refined creature, this,
Until its life ends without even a single hiss.
