Evocation of Yemaya, An Act of Contrition

Yemaya!
Owner of the Waters,
whose children are like fishes,
arise from the Sea
as I grovel at your feet!
You could undo me.
I do not care.
I leave that up to your discretion…
Queen of the Ocean,
you were here to take the Seed
of all Creation,
You are my Mother,
and I’ve deceived you,
ungrateful child that I am,
I did not protect you
I let them rob you;
and rape you
and turned my eyes away.
Great Mother,
Womb of the Earth,
can you forgive me?
I’m just a mortal child
and I’m not perfect.
I thought that someone else,
someone smarter than myself,
had better answers
so asked no questions,
much to my dishonor.
Yemaya!
Forgive me for
forgetting to remember
The most important Truth of all:
that we are Stewards of the Earth
we’re not the owners,
we tend the garden
and keep the balance
to one day watch our children
do the same.
Yemaya!
In contrition and in shame
I lay blossoms at your feet.
Arise, Mother of Life!
and accept this Offering
of my devotion
to henceforth live in Balance
in your honor;
and stop the bleeding.
Oh, Yemaya!
