Damning Waters

Bleeding hearts spill brackish blood
Lost within the mind.
When will she
Stop
Weeping on dusty stars,
Coins spent on wishing wells,
Lying
Inward to upturned eyes, teary
With pain born of trembling hands.
To
Fragile wraiths with chains of pain
She gives metal burden lies,
Whispering, "You can only trust"
Yourself
"and I in this lonely world's design.
The rest are cruel, self-centered whores
Inconsiderate to extremes"
There
"is no truth in life, no happiness to find."
In the dark she dreams of knives,
Dripping with back's blood, but there
Are
Only shadows there, sparkling in the mist.
Ever constant, ever there, ever silent in their keeping.
No
Droplet, in its short-lived life, remains a perfect sphere.
It moves, grows, learns, and dwindles there.
These tears are never the
Victims
Of lost loveliness in night.
Though they may sting fragile flesh
They weep for the pang they rise, crying
Here
All the while, the shimmering silhouettes of past.
She can not bear the sting and runs from pleading tears
Whispering to inner voices, "If"
Only
"I could understand why the waters change,
I could stop their painful flow and drive away the pain"
But the blood of imagined wounds
Flowing
Into the raging mind, breathes blind hate and
Cools itself to damn the
Waters.
And so she thrives on self-inflicted pain
Never embracing the waters of change.
