A Visit From Diana

by Jason D. Signore
 [WVox Sponsor]
 Age Group: Adult

She sits in the darkness, waiting... This goddess knows her territory well. Rings of pearls dance around her neck Like the moons of many worlds. She invokes the Hunt, And tonight, I am the hunter, And changing the rules, She, the prey.
Emboldened by her charge, Bacchus stands behind me, Loki stands beside me, My quiver at the ready. The Wolf's hunger Guides me to her lair, Surrounded by her subjects.
A glimpse of the dark ringlets of her hair, Her night-clad figure, Her full lips, Her alluring smile, And my bloodlust is awakened.
Only She could be responsible for this; Turning this quiet, lonely mortal Into a hunter of brave design. My insecurities have become bravado, My fears morph into chivalry, Cares become whims, And the earthly realm disappears.
And I float, above the stars, Diana in my arms, And twirl the goddess in a dance, Spiraling towards Dawn.
And in one moment, Before her protective subjects, My hunting party in audience, Breaking all the rules, Our lips meet.
Man and goddess, one.
Our hearts beat together, Our minds share ground, Our imagination runs wild, Our embrace eternal.
And I surrender my gauntlet, Before leaving... An offering to the goddess... Hoping to see it again; My link to her divine visit.
She may but be passing through, And I a night's fancy. We may not again meet, But tonight I am mortal divine. For this one evening, The first in many moons, I am again truly alive.
Author's Notes: An ode to a Goddess. One of my few pieces with a mythical/divine theme that is serious. For me, the theme usually lends itself well with humor (note the story teller's companion deities) . This one's a rarity.
