Thirds: A Devotion

Dare but show me your dress, maiden
a flowered mane, a fiery voice,
the heat of determined love and the
perfume of innocence
on your breath.
Dare but teach me your ways, mother
a laugh full of cheer, the scent of roses and fresh bread,
a song full of summer,
the hope of new life in your belly.
Dare to lend me your wisdom, crone
a night-star scarf, fall leaf rasp,
a grandmother's kiss,
the icy justice of destruction and renewal
in your hands.
