Samhain

Age Group: Adult
I taste the warm spiced cider on my lips;
at the tip of my tongue.
the smell of cinnamon & pumpkin.
the flame from the black candle,
blazes my eyes.
and for that one second I feel melancholy.
as the witches approach the spirited circle.
I glance up and I feel quite at home.
Although they aren't the same
they have the spirit of the wild.
the smell of apples & pomegranates perfume the air
and in that one minute,
second;
you can feel the magickal energy
the sun sets, a shimmer of orange.
the carved pumpkins are lit
you see children running, searching for candy at neighbors' homes.
the veil lifts,
igniting
life
&
death
quivering lips press together
in a plain, clean kiss.
prickling colorful leaves encircle her head
like a halo.
and he looks down before him.
she looks like an angel
the wind whistles
howling
black flamed candles are lit with awe.
you can feel the night
the screams wafting through the air
reaching out for dead ancestors.
the veil peels away from each other,
like a gooey substance,
transparent.
grinding my teeth in despair
and another emotion
not quite describable.
And in this night of All Hallow's Eve,
I thank every ancestor that got me this far.
And the cider that spills off my lips,
and into his palms like,
a cup filled with blood of the coming new year.
