Under the Rowan Tree

by Colwyn
 Age Group: Adult

When times were nicer and simpler There was a rowan tree Born from eagle's blood and wimper Yet no man like you can see There was a river that ran close by Was very clean, and pure The water reflected heaven up high Twas a paradise I'm sure But beyond the tree land was dead Barren because of hate The river born of tears turned red The birth and death of fate Now in the tree there was one girl Clothed not in ways of man Skyclad she watched the wind twirl Blow dust up from the land And from the river there was a boy Sad and skyclad to Boy saw girl with looks of joy And with a love so true This land did belong to the boy once Full of magic and life But war and quake doth turned to dust Now the boy is in strife The boy called to girl, but no answer He called and called again Till finally she noticed his words And turned to the river again "Who are you?" the boy asked girl "I am the Girl of Heaven." "I am Boy from River." Wind twirled The girl's curls intoxicated him A blessing from the sky And as the dusk sky turned dim One question remained, why. Why didn't they go to their homes And what was this feeling A feeling that froze them from home A feeling that kept them smiling Thunder was rolling, sky was black The water began to rise Danger in the air, should've been back Move very quick or die River and tree were dangerous homes So they left familiar ground And found a safe and rocky dome It looked so safe and sound They hid in cave and huddled close And sat there in warm embrace And there they got their first true dose Of love, they tightened embrace Here in this cave, they made a choice To live hither or thither The choice was very easy of course The cave belonged to her The boy wanted to be subservant But the girl said no They lived with no servants And grew through sun and snow When times were nicer and simpler There was a rowan tree Born from eagle's blood and wimper Yet no man like you can see Now in the tree there was one girl Clothed not in ways of man Skyclad she watched the wind twirl Blow dust up from the land And from the river there was a boy Sad and skyclad to Boy saw girl with looks of joy And with a love so true Now there were three more there Two girls and a little boy Born from boy and girl so fair All five did live in joy And grass did grow, flowers bloomed All was happy of creation For life came from the girl's womb And thus, the legend of creation
