Shadow of remembrance

Shadow of remembrance
I have fallen into trials, common to this land of milk and honey
Mountains built of steel and pain, bonded by the lust for money
We the people, formed from sorrow, stand upon broken dreams
What was open, now has chains, nothing truly is what it seems
At the beginning of this venture, blood was shed in the name of God
We have lost the sorrow, remembering how grapes of wrath are trod
Many people, like an ocean, cast ashore from across the sea
Found a place, to lay their ashes, at the base of freedoms tree
We are born in this land of plenty, never lost, before we start
Why have we been blessed in this, that others have no part
I know this for myself, treasures given must be shared
If we expect to deserve, heavens peace, from hell be spared
