Faery Dance

The thrill of midsummer,
so saturated in sun,
is when they come out
to have a bit of fun.
Rakishly,
they spun and they danced.
Hurtling forward,
they sang and they pranced.
I looked upon them
quite naive,
as they danced until midnight
on Midsummer's Eve.
With their gossamer wings
and the way that they spin
and, formidably stricken,
they succored me in.
Some looked upon me sadly,
others, on me happily.
I had not the faintest idea they were
marauders of mortality.
Although I stayed for hours
I never stopped my dance.
The langour wasn't coming--
it never had the chance.
For while we danced by moonlight
we spun to a precarious ledge
where, indolently, we lept off
that deadly-looking ledge.
Futiley, I screamed in fright
as the world's colours blurred by
until I, like the others, who flitted about
grew gossamer wings to fly.
So send my condolences to Mother,
for I shant return to her home,
for I'm in the realm of faery now
and here I'll stay--alone.
