A Question Asked

by R de Hwyll
 Age Group: Adult

A Question Asked by Robert Waldbauer
"Where Have All The Faeries Gone?", my daughter asked one day. I must admit that I was stunned, but knew just what to say.
But instead, I took her hand, and led her out the door, down the steps, across the yard, and out onto the moor.
We wandered through the heather, and the brambles leafy green, up the hill to the Fairy Wood, to see what could be seen.
There, beneath the leafy boughs of Oak and Ash and Thorn, We came upon a open patch, a ring of earth quite worn.
"Here, last night, the Faeries danced, " I said, a smile upon my face. "for this is the magic Faery Ring, a very special place."
"Last night, " said I, "was Beltane Eve, a time of Faery delight, when Fae of every shape and hue come dance and sing all night."
"But come the dawn, they all depart and wend their magical way for Trooping are the Fae who here danced until the breaking day."
"They travel on to the Summer Realms, where they all do go to spend the pleasant summer months, without winter's snow."
"For 'tis a place found Underhill, that magical Faery Land, That is where the Faeries went, a'marching Faery Band!"
"Will they come back?" she asked of me, her eyes agleam with tears. "Of course they will!" I did declare, "So put aside your fears -
The Trooping Fae, they shall come back, but not 'til Samhain's Eve, But if you look quite closely , you'll find the things they leave."
We wandered back along our trail, with stops to 'smell the flowers'. And short dashes off the path, to inspect 'Faery Bowers".
So wonder not where the Fair Folk went, and definitely do not grieve - For Faeries shall always be about - All you need do is believe!
