Prepare for Battle
by Laurie Beth
Age Group: Adult
A cold dark hallway
with a thousand doors on either side;
a secure passage
where they can run and hide.
No locks on these doors,
except from within.
The doors begin to open;
the battle about to begin.
A lone little girl
behind the wall at the end,
crouches infront of the peep-hole,
the separation her only friend.
She watches, she waits,
she trembles for what is to come.
A door opens, a horn sounds,
the battle at last has begun.
