pain

fighting down the dark memories that stir
swirling in my mind, clouding my heart
the beating of my heart is a pain hard to bear
voices in my head, screaming for release
fear pulls me under, dragging me into nothing
caged and bound to the lies of my making
who is that looking at me through eyes I know so well
a facade cleverly crafted
every reaction measured and weighed
so as to reveal nothing of the monster inside
running from reality, hiding from chance
closeted within, a soul yearns to reach
waves of envy tainting my thoughts
longing for acceptance, craving for warmth
but on and on I deny my soul
too damaged to trust with the heart
whispers of what might have been laugh in my ear
taunting, relentless, hell-bent on despair
Author's Notes: Someone told me that finding my path was the easy part; walking it is a whole other story. For a long time, I masked my pain. Now that I am finally on the Goddess' path, she is forcing me to confront the issues head-on. It's scary, it's hard but I will never be complete until I face it, accept it and grow from it.
