Giving life
At you own expense
And don’t think I don’t know it
Did I say thank you for calling me?
I meant thank you
For giving me back my self
Thank you for reminding me to live
Because I love those kids, too
Maybe even not as much as you have
These Lucky Seven years
I’ve known you.
It’s hard to find american words to explain you
friend, dad, uncle, brother
None of these do justice
And it frustrates me that others might not get it

Today though,
I feel strong enough to use this comforting name and let them wonder
Since they may never get it anyway
Hell, I’m not sure I completely comprehend all you have done
All you’ve done
From your desire to see us be happy
If what I feel now is any less than equal
to what you’ve laid down on our behalf
it will be a most difficult day when I realize
the infinite volume of love
as you pass me by
on the wind into the future
