A ballad of the flute
by Revelation Witch
Age Group: Adult
Through meadow's heart and glades of fire,
Ever swifter as the rippling streams.
Float upon the wisps of cloud,
And warm the essence of her dreams.
Steal through the starry, moonlit night,
Rest among the deer and fawn.
Soar throughout the Eagle's realm,
And fill her eyes with softest dawn.
Ride upon the mountain rain,
Fly, oh fly, through trees of might.
Rest upon the turtle's back,
And grace her soul with glory's light.
Seek and find the tender mare,
Warm and soothe her little foal.
See the light within her eyes,
Feel the warmth within her soul.
Brush her cheeks of polished hue,
Kiss her ears with quiet song.
Caress the softness of her lips,
Counting not the minutes gone.
Love and guide her all your life,
Seek and find her hand in yours.
Look into her shining eyes,
And let her be in all your words.
Author's Notes: I've always had a love of the Native American flute, or 'Courting Flute', as it is called. The reason for the name is thus; when a young man desires to win the heart of his lady, he crafts a flute with his own hands and then sits outside the village or settlement. There he plays a melody on the flute. If his heart is pure and that of the maiden also, she will hear his melody and seek him out. Okay, I admit it, I'm a romantic.
