The Moon and Endymion

Age Group: Adult
Across the sky Diana took her chariot
In the route she took every night
With little variation and no shortcuts.
Until one night she stopped in flight
Looking down, overcome with delight.
Lying on a Tuscan hilltop amidst a flock
Was a shepherd to delicious to pass up,
So the Moon Goddess decided to stop
And look a little closer at this shepherd’s makeup
Which only left the Moon with a little holdup.
Endymion was beautiful; Diana was smitten.
However she left him dreaming before he could see her.
Endymion’s dream left him filled with emotion.
Diana visited every night and left a dreamer
Who began to live only for when it became darker.
One night Diana noticed her love growing old.
Endymion was a man who was not immortal.
She gathered him up and took him to a stronghold,
To Mount Latmos where he was never wakeful
In the land of Forgetfulness, forever restful.
Endymion sleeps forever out of reach of all
Work, Time, Unhappiness, Age, or Fear.
His dreams come at the end of nightfall
When Diana whispers stories in his ear
Of what she sees as travels our sphere.
