True Loss

Though I cannot understand,
as I sit here and cry
There has to be a reason
though I don't understand why.
In the end is there only darkness?
Is there really a light to follow?
Do we pass to another existance,
Or is the end truly hollow.
I cannot be sure
Until my time does come
I sit and remember those lost
And I begin to feel so numb
To those of you that I love
If there is another ride
At the end of the one we are on
I await you on the other side.
Author's Notes: When a loved one is lost, there is not much that can initially soothe the ones left behind. I wrote this poem for a dear friend of mine that passed away on September 21, 2005. Now, almost one year later, I am sharing this piece with those outside of my close-knit group of friends. I feel safe and comfortable posting here, so I have decided to share this with everyone that wishes to read it. I can only hope that in your time of sorrow, you find a safe and productive way to express yourself as I have in writing this. Blessed Be.
