Come Yule!

Such long cold nights,
That give me fear,
The dead silence all around,
‘Cept for birds and pines,
Life is dear.
The sun is weak,
And visits least upon the mere,
My wood burns fast,
The warmth it gives,
Soon disappears.
We are all in shrouds,
Of skin and wool,
Keeping in what warmth, we can.
By the fire,
Thinking of days more full.
The wise men say Yule is near,
Holly and pine mark, as of yore,
This feast in the depths,
Praise be to Goddess and the God,
The darkness will extend no more.
Come, Yule! Come Yule!
So bring the light,
And bring the warmth,
The green, and sun,
That gives us such delayed delight.
