For Scott Cunningham, With Love

A face I never got to see,
A man I never met,
He did have an effect on me,
One I will not forget.
He reached me in a different way,
One that lives throughout the ages.
He reached me through the books he wrote,
He lived in all the pages.
I read until I fell asleep,
Till I could read no more.
I purchased all that I could find,
From every shelf and store.
He lit a fire in my soul
And urged me on my path.
I was a beginner, very new,
But I didn’t want to go back.
I didn’t know what I was doing;
He was with me all the way.
And even when I’m questioning
He’s with me still today.
For the man I never knew,
Who died when I was young;
You live on in many hearts
And made me feel like I belong.
Author's Notes: One of the first books that I read was by Scott Cunningham, his book "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner." Ever since then, I have collected his books, including his biography. He was really the one who brought me into Wicca, which is why I wrote the poem.
