We've Been Waiting

The sun slowly sets on the horizon
Bathing the trees in a fiery glow
The sky turns dark and faint stars dot the sky
Slowly, all the daytime noises cease
All is quiet as the glowing, pearlescent moon rises in the blackness
The delicate wind rustles the leaves as if to say
"Welcome Moon. We've been waiting for you all day."
It is as if a silent call has been issued
And the night creatures come forth to announce their arrival
The faint chirping of crickets echoes through the stillness
Cicadas chant their mysterious songs to the night sky
The light of the Moon plays on the mirrorlike surface of the lake
Whilst the nighttime furry things try to catch it
And fireflies light up the darkness, only to allow it to return again
The magickal song rises in pitch until even the deeply sleeping can hear
The song continues until the Moon drops ever so slightly in the sky
And yet another silent call is issued
The song slowly fades along with the darkness
Until there is nothing left of either
The light gradually reappears on the horizon
Casting a subtle amber glow on the trees
Dew glistens on the sweet-smelling grass
One by one, the birds begin chirping to the rising daylight
All is calm as the Sun begins its ascent into the blue
And the delicate wind rustles the leaves once more as if to say
"Welcome Sun. We've been waiting for you all night."
