Confessions of the Damned

I am experienced
I am innocent
I am afraid
I am damned
In a world of darkness from which I cannot escape
You are able to reach within and awaken that which sleeps
A desire I never thought I would feel again
Emotions I never thought would return run through my veins
With one look I am swept up in that which is you
You take me on a journey that at once excites me and frightens me
For I cannot control myself
I am experienced
I am innocent
I am afraid
I am damned
As quickly as the desire awakens, just as quickly it can die
Her name sweetens your lips, as mine should
Her face lights up your darkest night, as mine should
You speak of her and place her on a pedestal
You speak of me and place me at its foot
I feel that I cannot measure up to her
And it is this that will drive me away
I am experienced
I am innocent
I am afraid
I am damned
When I disappear into the mists
Will you follow me or return to your fantasies
I have learned from experience to know when I’m not wanted
And although merely your smile sets my heart ablaze
I have no qualms about leaving you if it is not me you truly want
I refuse to be a replacement.
I have lived long enough to admit that
I am experienced
I am innocent
I am afraid
I am damned
Author's Notes: This is a poem I wrote about a certain someone who is confusing me in my life right now. He's having a bit of trouble making up his mind, and I'm basically readying myself for the worst. This poem is basically my therapy, helping me to get all of my emotions out.
