Blood of Eden

Age Group: Adult
The sky above me shines in a silvery blue
And the earth below me blossoms in colors I didn’t know existed
The river flows lazily alongside me
Its current singing a sensuous song of longing
As the sun sets in the West, the sky transitions to red
And the river to blood
I’m drawn to the blood water
And suddenly I realize how the ocean must feel
When the moon calls its name and beckons it to come forward
Step by step, I flow into the river
The liquid consumes me and I descend to the bottom
Only to ascend and float at its delicate surface
Above me is the reddened sky
Below me is the darkened earth
Surrounding me is the bloody river
I’m swimming in the blood of Eden
Consumed by love at its purest
Author's Notes: This poem was actually inspired by Peter Gabriel's song of the same title.
