Autumn's Catch

A shower of gold and fire and copper shake loose from the dying trees, taking their last deep
breaths before the hushing slumber of winter. Sporadic whirl winds whip up these tokens, innocently
assaulting the passerby's, wanting more than anything to show off their last bits of playfulness before
they have to go deep inside themselves for the six month dusk. Sweet mist clings to the air as a sharp
and deliberate chill blankets the over cast horizon, the sky like pale charcoal at the beginnings of rain.
Oh the bitter exasperation of a dying life... the falling night echoes its significance in eternity,
regardless how small or how shortly remembered it will be. We are little worlds all our own, a cloister of
dependent catalysts, rippling against each other, igniting the combustible fuse, waiting for the one
moment that their breaths are taken away... the one moment that proves that all the ones before it
were actually worthwhile. Who is to be my fuse? The one that lights me up and knocks me down, taking
my breath away?
The winter is not brief. It lasts as long as the lonely soul gnaws at it, grapples it and clutches the deadly
blast of cold desperately against the chest. December is a state of mind.
