Songs Yet To Be Sung

To Persephone
Today I rage mostly silently
Eaten from within by Envy, Jealously, Greed, Fear, Rejection, Anger and lots of other un-Disney-like dwarfs with nasty names and unpleasant connotations
I’ve broadcast that I am cancelling Yule
Well the ritual I’m not fit to lead
Not the Solstice itself
Even my ego isn’t that big…
Yet I want to win your affection
Despite agreeing it will not work
I am too old and settled in my unwise ways while you wile away in inflexible youth
Time may change that, but I haven’t enough to waste waiting on you
We’d destroy each other any way
Yet I want to be with you share with you
I don’t care to surrender to those troubles lurking and prowling around the portals not sneakily but brazenly in plain sight; crows on the shoulder of the road devouring carrion
I hate that dead look in your eyes for I’ve seen the spark and dreamed it was for me
Perhaps it was, for a few minutes
My ego is big
Of course I want to hold you, snuggle you, taste you, fondle, fold, nibble &….
Have lots of other guys envious and jealous of me
But that is but the least of what I want from you
I want a chance
I chance I cannot have, for you will not grant me that
The chance I cannot afford to take even if it were offered
And I would not say “No”
So you do,
In your youth and arrogance that all those dreams you will make come true
I know what will come of most of those dreams.
Haven’t I displayed the wreckage, my past
Parlayed and paraded all those dreams devoured and thrown haphazardly into a closet never to be seen again
Till you made me look
Till you reminded me that I once dared to dream grandly; and failed miserably
So I rage today mostly silently
At my own undoings and things undone, of dreams and plans and songs played out of tune
And wonder how am I ever to walk away from you
With all those songs yet to be sung
