Sekhmet as Healer

O harsh Mother
Eater of Blood
Lady of Flame
Eyes black as coal, churning and restless as fire,
Flowing mane cascading down Your shoulders,
Seething mouth opened wide,
A ferocious roar escaping from between Your blood soaked teeth,
Searing breath burning my skin.
You reach into my chest with Your savage claws
And pull out my heart.
“It needs to be burned, ” You explain.
The bitter tears flow freely from You and from me
As my tender heart crackles in Your purifying fires
And is reduced to ashes.
I reach one hand forward to collect what is left,
But You bat it away with Yours.
I ask You pleadingly with my eyes, “Why?”
You reply with Yours, “Wait.”
You place Your hands over the ashes,
Nails caked with dried blood,
And growl menacingly at them, demanding rebirth.
I feel Your sweltering heat coaxing new life forth from death
And I watch as from the ashes my heart grows anew
And once again my heart is on fire.
