My Cat Odin

Age Group: Adult
He stares back at me with bright green eyes that speak volumes.
Silently pleading for me to take him away from this cold steel box.
A whole universe apart by thin metal bars that allow for no forgiveness.
Yet through his sadness, he sits regal and as a king on his throne.
His orange fur gleaming brilliantly against a dull background.
I nod to the old woman who watches me with an keen avid interest
She smiles and rises, bringing with her the key that mean freedom.
Those beautiful eyes come to life and he runs to me, his mother.
He hugs my neck as tightly as a small frightened child and refuses to let go.
My warrior, my Odin. Beautiful and swift with the grace of a hunter.
Yet so gentle when he holds a paw to my face and pauses in his bath to clean my nose.
Author's Notes: I adopted my cat from a woman who rescues cats that are about to be put down at local area shelters. Apparently, he had scheduled to be euthenized the day that she saved him. Nobody wanted this beautiful male orange tabby because he wasn't a young kitten anymore, though barely a year and a half old. (We think he's about two years old or so.) I had always wanted a large orange male tabby, and I got more than I ever could have asked for. He follows me everywhere, and loves to gently nip at my nose when I sleep so that I'll pet him. I thank the Goddess everyday that Odin came into my life.
