For My Mother

They call to me in
voices I've always heard
and always denied
They let me see the
things I've been told
I can see how others lied.
It was an honest mistake
you made in raising me
You let me choose my own way
But you always thought that
I would choose your path
and never stray.
I was always too much for you
where religion is concerned
I was always in it deeper.
I think you understand where
it all comes from, or at least
you try to understand
And I think you know I'm
safe here and happier now
And I finally know where I stand
And I needed to know where I stand.
