Where is the Goddess?

Where does she hide, that goddess inside?
Under what layer, what shoes, what clothes will she show her face to me?
Is there a goddess inside of me?
I look all around, I see her face
I look inside and cannot see
Where is the goddess inside of me?
No perfect body, no perfect curves
No perfect beauty to shine in the world
How can there be a goddess inside?
Suddenly I realized, suddenly I'd found
the fact I'd been missing all along
The goddess inside, the one who's been hiding
hasn't really been hiding at all
The goddess inside, so hard to see
really was, in fact, just simply me

Author's Notes: I have been spending a lot of time recently looking at myself, wondering where the goddess was in me. I have seen her in so many other aspects of my life, but never saw the goddess in me. I've never been good enough, never strong enough, never fast enough. I've always wanted more, and never found exactly what I was looking for. In writing this I realized that through it all, the goddess is a part of me. I am a woman and therefore a goddess. I have my sadness, I have my problems, but I realized in this poem, that a goddess must have these things. Goddesses aren't perfect, they just have the courage to believe in themselves; to get through the bad decisions, to move on in life, and to know when to take control, and when not to. The goddess, I realized, is always there, and the first step to good decisions is believing that I am a goddess and worth my own time.
