Turning a New Leaf

When I look upon a grove of sapling trees,
And mystically my hands become like their leaves,
How thrilling the hope is, to do as I please!
But when the time comes, to look up and grieve,
As I see my beloved tree, now broken into two,
The trunk I once embraced, its life all through!
And realize a part of me has died of late,
Then it feels better, looking back, to accept fate,
And the limbs I had, too feeble for the winds.
What can my hands do now, but become like the wings
Of butterflies? What else can I do, but atone?
I cannot bring back what is gone, nor alter what I've done.
But seeds get sown, and I can go on,
While looking forward to the saplings, bending in the breeze.
Once I wandered as a cursing fool,
Perhaps by mischievous spirits led astray,
Through darkness and thickets, having lost my way.
Now, as the moon rises and the air grows cool,
I walk through the very same woods,
Calmer, understanding what I had not understood.
The moon now glows through the branches. The owl hoots.
My mind has come to permeate the roots,
Into the sad, haunting, beautiful mystery.
I was the cursed fool, having many things
I did not love enough, and lost. I've paid the cost
Of growing wiser, for walking through the unknown,
The solitary wanderer, yet am I all alone?
Invisible hands, a Presence, guides me.
Author's Notes: Here's some of my poetry, dealing with the saddest, and also the most hopeful aspects of my personal life. I hope that you find this relevant to your own life as well.
