The Sound and the Light

You are the chimes, dancing in the wind,
Making the music of the dance.
I am the water, flowing quietly
Through the floodplain beneath you.
I mix with the soil to make the mud.
You are the thunderhead,
Discharging the charge of your gray matter.
I am the cottonball of a cloud,
Drifting through the blue of high noon,
Unheard and hardly seen.
You are the hummingbird,
Humming with your wings, hovering.
I am the aphid, sucking
The sap of the honeysuckle.
Your hum sounds thunderously loud!
You are the lion, with all his pride,
Whose roar is heard for miles around.
In my quietness, I am the lamb,
Of that fact neither ashamed nor proud.
That is just the way I am.
Could we love the sounds of music
Without the silence between the notes?
Could we praise the glory of the sunrise
Without the darkness of the night?
These are the sound and the light of spells!
