Eulalia

Sometimes, with my inner eye, I do see
A maiden goddess with flowing hair rest,
Reposing in the crescent of the moon!
With my inner ear, enchanted, I hear
That goddess singing, Eulalia her name,
And by her liquid notes and lyrics fine
I am moved to a spirit quite divine
Until, filled with the passion of her song,
I write these lines with my sacred, quill pen:
I, as one of those love children of Zeus,
Have been granted special gifts by my Muse.
My name, Eulalia, means, "speaks well", but you
May be the judge of how much that is true.
Brilliantly shined what seemed a rising star,
But fell, a mere pebble, into a jar!
Lo, that young hawk, which dared to soar so high,
Now dives far down, making agonized cries!
What effort the June bug makes to lengthen
Life, by one, mere day! not worth the mention!
How the spider, which made love to his bride,
Gets rewarded, alas! His life denied!
Might there be something worthier than life,
To reward faithfulness shown to one's wife?
Therefore, stars may not be as they first seem,
But does this take all worth from dreaming dreams?
Does not your dreamy ear, in fact, hear me?
Dreams are - portals, to moon-bright sanity
(Such as Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata!)
And to beauty not to be forgotten.
