Fruit of Dionysos

The winding vine does not know that the quest
To embrace the sun never can get done.
It keeps on climbing, winding as it goes,
Daunted not the sightest bit in its zest,
Driven to life by a love not bounded,
With the balance of climbing and winding,
For without winding hardly can it climb.
Why should it know the pains of growing wise?
It lives for the sake of the winding rise.
The sun holds the vine spellbound with its shine
And, in due season, the wonder takes shape,
Fruit of Dionysos, the purple grape!
Turning it into wine, man seeks escape
Through revelry, from his hard, human fate.
