Benediction

The sun sets, and the sun also rises
By portals which vary with the seasons,
But whether or not we get thunderheads,
And whether or not we have water freeze,
Depend on how Earth changes her degrees
Of tilting. Old Sol loves to stay the same.
Loving to imitate Eternity,
Sol stays brilliant, as long as that can be.
Not so with Luna! Changing every night,
She makes waning and waxing her delight.
Luna is as mutable as the sea!
May my spirit keep on burning like Sol,
And may my character change like Luna,
Waxing with good will, waning in evil.
Although the sun illuminates the moon,
It is Luna who makes Old Sol a boon.
