Once upon a time in the Land of Oz
Was born a foal with a feature quite odd:
Right in the middle of his forehead grew
A lump. It grew and grew! He felt all blue
At first, but when his head became adorned
With that horn, he took the name Unicorn
With utmost pride! No more a blight to hide,
He strutted, showing it off far and wide.
Galloping nearby a cliff one morning,
A crone beckoned, to give him this warning:
"You have quite some horn indeed, but you need
The wisdom to follow through with wise deeds!"
To the edge of the cliff Unicorn went,
Not having the slightest what the crone meant.
Perched upon a limb over the abyss
Sat the hawk. Unicorn whinnied, "See this?"
Too caught up in his game of show and tell,
He got too near the edge, that cracked. He fell!
He survived the fall, relatively sound,
But - alas! - his horn, shattered, on the ground!
How sad it was, but he went on his course,
Nevermore Unicorn, but one wise horse!
