The Spell of the Willow

Behold the limbs of the weeping willow
Hanging down to the water of the creek!
With both roots and limbs it is connected
To Mother Earth. Orbiting overhead,
The moon shines. The shadow of the willow
Wanes, and will wax again toward the east.
An owl is hooting from somewhere out there.
The limbs sway slightly, like a fairy's hair.
My spirit feels overcome with this peace,
That seems somehow to transcend all despair.
As I stand at this threshold of midnight,
The willow has come to stand for the world,
Quite the essence of life, and time itself!
I have a feel beyond thought and desire,
While witnessing the willow cast her spell.
