On Lughnasadh

The harvest is both coming and going,
The coming of the bounty from labor,
Reaping, which is the going. The knowing
Of which is which is the trick: to save or
To let go? Pick the better of the two.
What a test of the wisdom of the witch!
Telling the time has come is hard to do,
When what you love is what you ought to pitch.
Lammas is for celebrating harvests,
But also hopefully for diligence,
In anticipation of the greatest
At summer's end when autumn will commence.
This all depends on weather in the spring,
As do all endings on sound beginnings.
