Puzzling Metamorphosis

Let us take apart the pieces
Assembled into this square,
To make the pentagram! 1
Yes! Here it is!
But it is a thing of despair.
Let us bisect one of the points,
And extend the line to make the axis
Of symmetry of the two wings.
Let us bind the pieces together
With this eternal bond.
At last, let us wave this magic wand,
Attaching the wings to some body!
Abracadabra!!
Presto! There it is -
the Butterfly! the Angel! the Deity!
To fertilize the flowers of the meadow!
To sing of sacred things up high!
To know the awesome secrets
Which we mortals never can know!
Just the thought BANISHES sorrow!
Author's Notes: 1 When certain cuts are made, it is a geometric fact that the pieces of a square can be reassembled to make a pentagram!
