Many Aspects of - Nothing!

I see something young, petite, fair, but what?
I think it is a girl with dancing hair,
Skipping along the way without a thought
Of heaviness, nor a bit of despair;
And as she goes, she sings a song of things
Which are the stuff of fairytales. She looks
Like someone out of a good children's book.
Out of the blue, Constance asks, with a sting,
"What are YOU watching there?" Oh, ah - nothing!
I look again, but now I see - the ghost
Of a child whom I loved the very most!
The image of the child is, and is not,
Transparent, the projection of my thought!
My beloved Annabelle could this be,
Skipping along, now turning toward me?
I feel that spell of true love felt, once more
Alive, to move me at the very core!
"What ARE you watching there?" Nothing! Nothing!
A girl? A ghost? Nothing IS quite some thing!
I look back again, to see a fairy!
Like the girl, she looks so bright and merry!
Tulip to tulip, with transparent wings
She flies along cheerfully, and thus sings:
"Gleefully, steadily, as the bee flies,
On goes the spry spirit which never dies.
The rose will blossom, though sting may the thorn.
The Maiden returns, and life is reborn!"
"WHAT are you watching there?" Really, nothing!
Girl? Ghost? Fairy? WHAT a thing is nothing!
Lo and behold, Maiden Persephone
I now see, dancing among the flowers!
Demeter, the Mother Earth rejoices,
Singing with the birds harmoniously!
A hummingbird, circling above, showers
With adoration the maiden goddess.
Down to Her shoulders, Her locks shine golden,
Like the buds of goldenrods which open.
"What are you watching THERE?" There? Oh, nothing!
Girl? Ghost? Fairy? Goddess? There is something
Indeed, very special about nothing!
