Justice

Woe is the world without final justice!
Of what good is any possible bliss,
Even the blessed Milk of Paradise,
Rewarding virtue little, but much vice?
Woe is the mother after labor-pain,
With a thankless child! Was it not in vain?
Without the garden at the rainbow's end
To honor the worth of the faithful friend,
Is it not better that friendship were not,
And love merely the child of idle thought?
I choose the water of pulluted streams
Over the bitterness of defiled dreams;
All the virtues of animal and man,
With justice withheld, seem to be a scam.
Yet, justice or not, I think this is true:
All virtues are worthy for their virtue.
