The Quest of the Second Grade Apprentice

To think that the Tree of Life can be rolled
Into wisdom at the core of a seed!
Once, the apprentice of a Witch, first taught
How to communicate with animals,
Was then told to learn what that wisdom is.
He went into the forest, where he met
A squirrel. Seeing that she looked quite old,
And therefore maybe wise, he asked, "Lady
Of these fine woods, I, the best apprentice
Of the world-class Witch Metamorphosis,
Have come respectfully to you to ask,
What is the wisdom at the very core
Of the seed of the Tree of Life?" "Dear me, "
Said the squirrel, "I just live by this tree!
My sole wisdom is, do not be lazy.
I just bury the extra nuts all day,
Or find them by digging, digging away."
He asked the same of a noisy blue jay.
"Beats me! My wisdom is pecking the head
Of that squirrel, to have the nuts instead!"
Day turned into night. There sat perched this owl.
"What is the wisdom at the very heart
Of the seed of the Tree of Life? "Hoo, whooo
Does everyone think I am? Someone wise?
My sole wisdom is catching those sly mice."
Even young apprentices get sleepy!
He fell asleep at the foot of the tree.
Hours later, he felt the subtle impact
Of a seed dropping onto his forehead.
This seed had a face! It started to talk:
"Are you the one hoping to know the facts
Behind the myth about all that wisdom
At the core of a seed of the Arbor
Vitae? Behold and think, but ask no more!"
The seed opened its mouth so circle-wide
That he saw the circular core inside.
It circumscribed geometric symbols,
Just one pentagon and two pentagrams!
Now YOU ponder the wisdom of it all!
