Lasting Beauty

Age Group: Adult
Wombs nourish fetuses, fetuses generate babies,
Babies become adults, adults endure tribulations,
Tribulations make sages;
Eggs nourish larvae, larvae generate pupae,
Pupae spin cocoons, cocoons protect crysalides,
Crysalides become butterflies.
Truth may characterize the links, but both chains are linear.
In connections with the five elements, Wu Hsing,
Lies the cyclical beauty of both things,
Fire, metal, wood, earth, water:
Vital, fiery passion makes the steel-strong, silken threads
Flow together to form the cocoon, as firm as wood.
The crysalis is aroused by stimuli
While encased, we can say, in the womb of Earth.
Finally it emerges, transformed into the butterfly,
With a burning desire for the dewy blossoms!
The water douses its fiery passions,
Flower by flower. In the dousing,
But also the rekindling, the beauty goes on.
