Age Group: Adult
Just people sometimes must hide their own light.
What a job indeed, for the sun to hide
Under the horizon for such long nights!
Oh Sol, you ask, why be thus so denied?
Darkness has might, and often might makes right,
Not in the heart, but in this whole world wide.
Therefore in my heart, I keep my knight quite
Thoroughly ready with a lance to ride.
It is by restraint, often times, that rays
Come across the brightest. When a new day
Is about to break, how we give our praise
Unto the sun! The rays feel much more gay
For following a darkness of dismays!
After labor, how good it feels to play!
Should I lament the wounding of the bright?
Why lick my wounds, with things for which to fight?
Author's Notes: Based on my thoughts on the bearing of the I Ching hexagram 36, "wounding of the bright" on my own life.
