Just Plain Cute!

by Radko Vacek

Age Group: Adult

We are reflections of what we admire:
Adore a cat and you become feline!
To admire is fine, but watch this quagmire:
Prizing just what is potentially "thine".
It is in filling ourselves with desire
For the good, that we become more divine.

Is your heart burning to dance like the fire?
Then you may dance upon it, one with flame!
Do you dream of his lucid strings, the Lyre
Of Apollo? Transform, and truth proclaim!
Do you yearn for the sprite, who never tires
Of babbling, "Onward, loving spirit, on!"?

Then you become like she, as you inspire
Another to hold love, and pass it on!

Author's Notes: Here are some reflections on the beautiful, the good - the divine! Yes, we do tend to be reflections of what we admire! We admire something when we say, "This is adorable! That is delightful!" These are different ways of saying, "I adore this and I delight in that." To admire is fine. The only problem with admiration is, I! I! I! When I meet a friendly dog, I think, "Adorable? Delightful? Just plain cute!" The recognition of cuteness, diminutive beauty, doesn't translate into an egotistical "I" evaluation as do adorability and delightfulness. When we say that something is cute, we say that it is so, that plain and simple, without reference to ourselves as Godlike judges of value, the "thou" of it all. This idea encompasses, not only beauty and goodness, but love as well. Truly, love is not to be held as a possession of ego. The essence of love is dynamic, not static. Love truly is like the water of the babbling brook, flowing onward, so, while it is fine to hold love, we should more so pass it on! Love, Radko.
