Exploring New Identities

An enormous hubcap-sized pentacle
Hanging heavily from your neck
It kind of makes me wonder
If your car got into a wreck
A long solid black cape
And runestones in your pocket
Twelve rings with a radiant glow
Charged by an electrical socket
Like a Gypsy fortune teller
Gold coins strung from your hat
Black shimmering nail polish
Fake tattoo of a vampire bat
A claw worn on your finger
A sword that's in a sheath
And as I watch you linger
Two fangs hang from your teeth
An aura of over-awareness
Dark makeup around your eyes
And now spread out before you
Tarot cards tease to advertise...
You stare at me defensively
My attention percieved as a scam;
Like I'm no one because I'm normal.
Thanks for making me think I am.
It's clear you don't like my attention
So offended by what it means
How could someone like me understand
Wearing just a t-shirt and jeans
Good gracious, my dearest child
With decorations shining so bright,
Tell me, how do they really affect
The glow of your inner light?
Even I have similar desires
Judge me not by the way I dress
I too could put on a show
And I have before, I confess.
So I understand your presentation
If you could, you'd do so much more,
But I think I'd understand better
If we weren't in a grocery store.
