Tiny Seed of Trust

Age Group: Adult
With each new person that I meet
I'll get to know in deed,
Beginning with a little trust
Inside a tiny seed.
I plant it in my garden of life
And the new person should know,
It's up to them to care for it
If ever it shall grow...
Sometimes the seed becomes a tree
Bearing fruit until the end,
This type of trust can only come
In deed from a true friend.
Sometimes the seed becomes a rose
So fragrant is its smell
The far-spread flowers cover ground
Beyond my wishing well;
And sometimes when the tree is young
A storm breaks it in half;
Mistakes are made but look, it grows back!
So we look, grow back, and laugh.
I mean,
We grow, look back, and laugh. ;-)
Sometimes someone tries too hard
With too much fertilizer,
Burned roots will die, and so will I
Without some tempering neutralizer.
My gawd, when someone comes to make
Self-glorifying, -flattering claims:
They kill the sprout -- my trust is out!
But I won't mention names...
Sometimes someone surprises me
The seed of trust grows tall --
How do some people get my trust
Without earning it at all?
Sometimes there's someone trustworthy
Who never did any wrong;
The seed yet knows to slowly grow,
It takes so very long...
But there are those I love the most,
Who humor me this game --
They plant a seed for ME to grow,
So I can do the same:
They plant it in their garden of life
And then of course I know,
It's up to me to care for it
If ever it shall grow.
With each new person that I meet
