My Father's Face

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

At times I think I see his face And simply can't ignore That time bestows such gifts and grace Grecian cities would adore
The mirror's Truth begins to show What only I can see That loving man who helped me grow Looks strikingly like me
I see his face when I look at me But with a slightly different grace The future I've always wanted to be Still resides in my father's face.
Author's Notes: Do you think my Dad would like my poem written in a Father's Day card? :-) Maybe I should do that and see what he says about it. My childhood was a little shaky, but as the years passed we have grown very close. And now I can't think of anyone else I'd rather be like. I would suppose that's a good thing, because I'm starting to look like he did back when he was my age.
There is a bond between father and son that transcends virtually all other things in a man's life, and I'm just glad I have this bond with my Dad while he is still here. We missed a lot of time when I was just a child, but we are more than making up for it now.
It's really interesting how much I look and act like my Dad, especially now that I'm 34. I suppose that means if I ever had a son, he would look very much like me. :-) I've never found anyone (neither child nor adult) that ever looked like they could be related to me, except only my closest relatives. I always thought it would be fun to find someone who is not related to me but looks like they could be. Alas, I am still searching for such a person. Oh well, I guess that makes me unique, just like everybody else. ;-)
