Our Lost Chance

That special friend
You've always been
The one who saw my heart
And just with you
I somehow knew
We'd be friends from the start
Now time has passed
I'm here at last
Though nothing has gone wrong
Our distance between
Yet I felt serene,
I've missed you for so long
But in my way
Most every day
And in fact, quite a lot
The past behind
You're on my mind
And in most every thought
Through a shielded gate
I simply await
The day I fear won't come
How could I let
My heart forget
Who with you I would've become
My friend, I still,
And always will,
Remember our plans to meet
But that chance is gone
Though I ponder on
My memories so sweet
We've never met
But I can't forget
Your heart of brilliant gold
In my empty space
I feel your embrace
As if I'm here for you to hold
But time moves on
And my chance is gone
Someone else is there for you
So I live my life
All so seemingly rife
Someone else here for me too
I miss you, friend
All time we'd spend
If only to say hello
And I lost my mind
When I left you behind
And let my one chance go
I remember our time
My heart would climb
And oh, how my love grew
Though time has passed
So much and so fast,
I still,
...I still think of you.
Author's Notes: For my friend in Tennessee. I'm glad you're still my friend. The distance was our only obstacle, and that's saying something unmeasurably significant, coming from me. You are always in my thoughts, which is one reason I am able to find reason to smile with my heart, every day of my life.
