Value of Self

Value is not in the proof
That someone else you can be
It is not in all your efforts
That you are just like "he" or "she"
Value is not the deception
That fitting in is how to connect
Lose yourself, submit to another
And experience a dreadful effect
Value is not somewhere else
Do not even make the attempt
Compromise who you really are
And your worth will become exempt
Value is not proving you "can"
When you do not believe in "you";
Demand to be who you are
And to thine own self be true
Harm none means not harming yourself
And just as another you'd heal
Take a moment of self-absorption
To discover a value that's real
For value will always exist
In yourself it is always there
Believe if for only one moment
Love is found most everywhere
If anyone's ever shown kindness
That was meant for only you
It's because they saw your value
And because they believed in you
So first take a look within
To yourself you must be kind
Believe in the person you are
And the value of self you will find.
