Overcoming Expectation

Age Group: Adult
Expectation is a funny thing
That one could ever do
To presuppose one's hopeful needs
Predicting they'll be true
To go forth with a prospect
Based on guesswork in the mind,
A premise taken for granted
Shows that Truth can be unkind
To postulate, assume, assert,
Demand, and make a claim --
But if it's based on guesswork
Real life may not be the same
The stigma of a mere mistake
Self-worth falls, anxiety climbs;
Allow yourself to live and learn
And make mistakes sometimes!
And keep the hope, the faith, belief,
Learn new things as you go,
And let the expectations bend
With new things you'll soon know
No one ever knows it all
But most can be correct --
To love and heal, just "keep it real"...
That's one thing I "expect". ;-)
Author's Notes: Dedicated to anyone whoever had their hopes crushed. It may feel like the end of the world, but my expectation is that the sun will rise once again tomorrow, although it sometimes takes getting through each eternal minute for a while longer.
I think that time seems to go fast when we're having fun because we are happy and carefree, but it tends to go slower when we are not happy because we are given the chance to slow down for a while and just get a grip on things, to understand the bigger picture, and to prepare us to fully appreciate the forthcoming times that are good once again, because surely they will be good once again, in time.
