Healing Myself

Age Group: Adult
Forgiveness is the gift
To myself that I will give
I choose full responsibility
For this life that I live.
Those harsh and harmful feelings
Are ones I need to feel
But when I'm good and ready
I'll release them all to heal
I care for many others
I choose to do my part
But I WILL keep my own boundaries,
As a healthy living art
No martyr will I ever be
Or one to sacrifice
I let go and move forward
I pay my share of the price
I choose to find my joy
And learn to recognize beauty,
Give myself credit where it's due
It's now my lifelong duty
A victim or a hero?
I do what's right for me
Myself shall first be rescued
A hero I shall be
I choose to stop the struggle,
To let go of that rope
To seek help when I need it
My life is mine to cope
It's time for a priority
And healing's at the top
I choose to do what's right
This guilt has GOT to STOP!
I choose to understand
Those things forgiveness is NOT
My healing can't be shared
When pain is all I've got
I know I am never alone
And all souls know my pain
For they have had it too --
Shared experiences I'll gain
For forgiveness is the gift
To myself that I will give
I choose full responsibility
For this life that I live.
