Non-Christian Salvation

by Phronesus Disegno
 Age Group: Adult

I hear that Christian message well One they seem to abuse, "Repent or else you're damned to Hell, " ...Not what I'd call "Good News"
Wisdom bears witness to my Truth This Life for which I long You shut me out when I came in, Please tell me, who was wrong:
I hungered for Life-giving food, For water to quench my thirst I'm open to Light in Darkness' realm That Light -- foremost and first --
You, Christian, stole my sense of self Abused me with nary a care Turned me away when I hurt the most Yet the Light remained bright somewhere
The Way to Love and Light I found Because I still chose to seek It had always been right there in me It carried me when I was weak
I recognized it, given unto me, Given to "every" human soul -- Life's celebration of The Way It has finally made me whole...
For now I revelate the Truth To some it may seem odd But we are all drawn to The One Coutless names has this genderless God
So, Christian, though you'll learn in time Some of you have sorely misbehaved, And from pain I now know, more than you, I "know" that I am saved:
This infinite entity of The Divine Favors not one religion or nation, We ALL are aspects of The Way, Who has redeemed all of Creation
Eternal love is in my heart, To live beyond my final breath, Now and forever I know within, "Life" will save me in Death.
Author's Notes: I'm usually so chipper about things, but this one was hard to write. In fact, it hurt a lot.
But when I was born to be the person I am, it cannot make sense that I'm such a terrible person. I've done wrong things, but I have learned from my mistakes. How can it be, that I will suffer eternal damnation, when that voice inside me has always known it isn't true?
It was that voice that kept me going through it all. Even if it was the Christian God who comforted me all along, even if it was not -- somehow, I am going to be okay. Indeed, "life" will save me from death.
And maybe that "life" does have a name. Maybe it's Jesus, maybe it's not. It doesn't seem to matter much when "a constant friend is He, His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me." Or maybe it is She who watches me... Who cares what the gender is anyway, when I need both Mother and Father, and when I've always known I would be okay, as long as I believe in love.
